Kids Eat Free or for £1: The UK Deals and Their Catches

Kids eat free UK deals are everywhere in the school holidays, and almost every one of them comes with a catch hiding in the small print. Feeding children out of the house is rarely cheap, and between the weather and the general sense that everyone is hungry again forty minutes after lunch, a family meal out can add up fast. The good news is that plenty of UK chains will feed the kids for free, or for £1.

I have written about Premier Inn kids deals so often that I should probably ask for a staff discount, so I wanted a proper look at the wider picture. This is the version with the conditions left in. A quick honesty note too: it is the start of November as I write this, and most chains have not published their Christmas dates yet. Where an offer is ongoing I have said so, and where it needs checking I have said that as well. I will update this page as the dates land.

Last checked: 1 November 2026.

The Year Round Deals

Some of these do not depend on the calendar at all. Asda Café kids meals for £1, Morrisons Kids Eat Free with an adult main over £5, the Travelodge kids breakfast and the Premier Inn free kids breakfast with an adult breakfast are all ongoing. Bella Italia does Sunday to Thursday all year, and the Sunday offers at Banana Tree and The Real Greek run every week too.

These are the ones to build a routine around, because they do not vanish when the school holiday ends. The school holiday only deals, along with the Christmas dates where I have them, are in the table further down.

Christmas 2026: When Are the School Holidays?

In England and Wales schools break up on Friday 18 December, and the holidays run from 21 December to 1 January. Scotland is set by each council, so it varies. Some start on 21 December and others on 23 December, with most pupils back on 5 January. Plenty of these offers are tied to your local school holidays, so check your own council dates before you plan a trip around one.

The free lunch and dinner offer was a half term promotion that ended on 1 November, and I have not found a Christmas version. Under 12s only, at participating restaurants, in person, and you have to mention it when you order 21 December to 3 January, confirmed on Heathrow’s own site

Where the Catch Really Bites

The first thing to spot is the timing. Tesco’s published Kids Eat Free promotion runs to 18 December, which is the last day of term in England, so it may stop just before the Christmas holidays begin. Tesco has extended these offers before, so it could well come back, but I would not plan a day out around it until it is confirmed.

It also needs a Clubcard or the app, which is part of why I have gone off the whole idea of Clubcard Prices as a rule. If you want to see how the other schemes compare, my supermarket loyalty cards guide puts them side by side. That is exactly the sort of catch kids eat free UK offers love to bury.

The second catch is the adult purchase. At Travelodge and Premier Inn the children’s breakfast is free or £1, but only if a grown up buys a full breakfast first, and that starts at roughly £10 per adult. It is still good value for a family, but it is not free in the way the headline suggests. I compared the two in Travelodge Breakfast Deal vs Premier Inn: Which Works Out Cheaper?, and I looked at the Premier Inn side in more detail in Premier Inn Breakfast Deal: Worth It for Families?.

The third catch is the minimum spend. £10 here, £15 there, an adult main over £5 somewhere else. None of these are unreasonable on their own, but they can nudge you into ordering more than you planned, and that is exactly how a free kids’ meal ends up costing you an extra starter.

The Cheapest Ways to Do It

If I wanted the least fuss, the Asda Café £1 meal is the one with no strings, as it needs no adult purchase at all. The Morrisons free breakfast is the other standout, because it is free for the adults as well as the children. Neither is a fancy meal out, but at Christmas, when everything else is getting more expensive, that matters.

For a family of three on a hotel stay, Premier Inn quotes its adult breakfast from £10.99 on one of its own pages and from £11.99 on another, with the two kids free, and some restaurants charge up to £13.99. Travelodge adds £1 for each child on top of an adult price that is set hotel by hotel, so check the figure for the hotel you are booking.

If you are booking a room, Premier Inn’s free breakfast code is worth a look too. I covered the half term version of the kids deal in Premier Inn Kids Eat Free Half Term 2026: What’s the Catch?, which gives a good idea of how these promotions come and go.

Sensible Spender Verdict

Worth using, with a few conditions. These kids eat free UK offers are genuinely helpful when you were going out anyway, and the no strings ones at Asda and Morrisons are the pick of the bunch. Where an offer needs a £10 or £15 adult spend, it is a discount rather than a freebie, and the sums only work if you would have spent that money regardless.

Important Dates

England and Wales have the Christmas holidays from 21 December to 1 January. Scotland starts on 21 or 23 December depending on your council, with a return on 4 or 5 January. The Tesco promotion currently ends on 18 December, and Heathrow’s offer runs from 21 December to 3 January. Most chains will confirm their Christmas dates in December, so check each one before you travel, as kids eat free UK promotions tend to appear and vanish quickly.

Kids Eat Free UK: Frequently Asked Questions

Do I always have to buy an adult meal?

Almost always. The exceptions I found are Asda Café, where kids eat for £1 with no adult spend, and the free Kellogg’s breakfast at Morrisons.

Can kids eat free on Christmas Day?

I did not find any chain advertising a kids eat free offer for 25 December. Many places are closed or run a special menu, so I would assume not unless you see it in writing.

Do these offers work in Scotland?

Mostly, as the big names such as Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Premier Inn have a wide spread of sites. Not every branch takes part though, and Scottish school holidays can start on different days, so confirm your own branch.

How old counts as a kid?

It depends on the chain. I found limits of under 10, under 12, under 15 and under 16, so always check the age before you book.

What happened to Beefeater and Brewers Fayre?

Whitbread closed all of them in September 2026, so any list that still names them is out of date. You can read the details on Premier Inn’s own news page.

Free is only free if you were going anyway. Which of these kids eat free UK deals would actually get your family through the door this Christmas?
