Another day, another deal offered by Premier Inn, which isn’t a complaint to be clear!
This time it is a well timed Premier Inn 20% off offer for anyone planning to stay somewhere between 4 November and 30 December 2026. As with most deals it is subject to availability, and I am not sure exactly what that means here. Is there only a certain number of rooms priced in this deal? For the purposes of this review that isn’t that important.
So what is the deal, what could you save, what is the catch (if anything) and is the deal real?
What is the Premier Inn 20% off deal?
Right, first up. 20% off your booking is a catchy headline, but what exactly does it mean? In practice, if you book the Standard rate at least 14 days before you arrive, you will pay up to 20% less than you would for the same room on the Flex rate.
So the first key question is what the difference is between the Standard and Flex rates, I hear you say! I have taken the descriptions straight from the Premier Inn site to make sure they are correct.
| Feature | Standard rate | Flex rate |
|---|---|---|
| About | Pay now, non refundable. Free to amend check in date at the same hotel up to 1pm on the day of arrival | Pay now or on arrival, fully refundable with free cancellation up to 1pm on the day of your arrival |
| Flexibility | Low | High |
| Can I pay on arrival? | No | Yes |
| Can I cancel and get a full refund? | No | Yes, up to 1pm on the day of arrival |
| Can I amend my booking? | Yes, you can amend your check in date at the same hotel up to 1pm on the day of arrival (additional room rate charges may apply depending on your new stay date) | Yes, you can amend your check in date at the same hotel up to 1pm on the day of arrival (additional room rate charges may apply depending on your new stay date) |
The first thing to note is that you are sacrificing some flexibility to get the discount. You will need to pay in full when you book, and you will not be able to cancel for a refund.
It isn’t all bad though. You can still amend the booking to a different date at the same hotel up to 1pm on the day of arrival. Note that if there is a price difference you will need to pay it.
That is still quite a good bit of flexibility if the hotel is somewhere you would be going no matter what. Let’s say, for example, you were booking a hotel to visit family that you normally see a couple of times a year. If you need to rearrange because of illness or a change of plans, you can simply select a different date. Not so ideal if you have booked the hotel for a specific event and never plan to return!
How much could you actually save?
The offer says up to 20% less, not a guaranteed 20%. So I sampled a few hotels in the Premier Inn app on 22 October 2026, for 13 to 15 November, one room and two nights, to see what the Premier Inn 20% off gap really looked like.
| Hotel | Room | Standard | Semi Flex | Flex | Saving against Flex | Saving % |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Norwich Nelson City Centre | Standard | £181 | £211 | £233 | £52 | 22% |
| Norwich Nelson City Centre | Premier Plus | £218 | £248 | £270 | £52 | 19% |
| Swindon Central | Standard | £122 | £126 | £138 | £16 | 12% |
| Swindon Town Centre | Standard | £89 | £107 | £120 | £31 | 26% |
| Swindon Town Centre | Premier Plus | £104 | £122 | £135 | £31 | 23% |
Two things stood out. Three of the five room samples beat the 20% headline, with Swindon Town Centre saving 26% on a Standard room and Norwich Standard saving 22%. But Swindon Central saved just 12%, so “up to” is doing a lot of work and the best saving is not always where you would expect.
That means it is worth looking at the actual prices when you book. If the gap is very close, you may still decide the Flex rate is worth it for the peace of mind.
There is also a middle option I should mention, Semi Flex. You pay now, but it is fully refundable up to 3 days before arrival. At Swindon Central it cost just £4 more than Standard (£126 against £122), which looks like a bargain for the right to cancel. At Norwich Nelson it was £30 more (£211 against £181), so the sums are less obvious. The offer only compares Standard with Flex, so Semi Flex is a bonus to check rather than part of the deal.
What is the catch?
Beyond the lost flexibility, there are a few conditions in the small print of the Premier Inn 20% off offer. You need to book at least 14 days before you arrive, and the offer covers stays between 4 November and 30 December 2026. It specifically excludes Central London, Edinburgh and the Republic of Ireland, and Premier Inn says a 20% discount is unlikely to be available at hub hotels.
The rates are also room only and include VAT, so breakfast is extra. Everything is subject to availability, and Premier Inn says it cannot guarantee a room at any location on a specific date.
Is the Premier Inn 20% off deal real?
In summary, the deal is real. Premier Inn 20% off is not a discount on the same booking though, it is a saving for committing to the Standard rate, and the saving in my samples ranged from 12% to 26%. If your plans are firm, or you would happily rebook the same hotel, it is worth a look.
It also pays to think about the extras. If you are eating at the hotel too, consider whether you can save more with the meal deals, and I have also covered the Premier Inn free breakfast offer for adults.
I also saw the same Standard against Flex gap on a real trip in my Tower of London weekend, where the non refundable Standard rate was £182 and Flex was £249. If you are comparing chains, my Travelodge against Premier Inn piece is worth a read, and you can see the other deals on the Premier Inn offers page.
Sensible Spender verdict
Only worth it if your plans are firm, or you would happily rebook the same hotel.
The Premier Inn 20% off deal is genuine and in my samples it often beat its own headline. But you are paying in full upfront with no right to cancel, so be honest about how likely your plans are to change before you click book.
Important dates
The offer covers stays between 4 November and 30 December 2026, booked at least 14 days before arrival. Because of that 14 day rule, a stay arriving on 30 December would need booking by 16 December. Premier Inn says the terms were correct as of 8am on 21 October 2026, so check the price you are shown when you book.
If you are planning a family stay, I have also looked at the Premier Inn Kids Eat Free half term offer, though it runs only to 1 November, so it will have finished before this deal starts.
